Vow, the innovative Australian startup, is revolutionizing the food industry by producing foie gras and parfait from cultivated cells of Japanese quail. This week, the company achieved significant milestones, including the largest-ever production run of cultivated meat, harvesting an impressive 1,200 pounds of Japanese quail in just one week. This accomplishment was made possible through the use of Vow’s custom-designed 20,000-liter vessel, created entirely in-house.

In a parallel development, Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) officially approved Vow’s application to include cultivated quail in the Food Standards Code. The final step involves a 60-day review period by ministers from various jurisdictions in Australia and New Zealand. If no objections are raised, Vow is poised to introduce its cultivated quail products to the market across ANZ as early as June.

CEO George Peppou attributes Vow’s rapid progress not only to larger tanks but also to a complete overhaul of the factory model. Peppou emphasized the importance of designing the second factory with a vertically integrated approach, incorporating engineers, welders, software experts, and other specialists in-house. This strategic decision has enabled Vow to significantly reduce costs, with Peppou claiming that their new plant can produce cultivated meat at a fraction of the cost compared to competitors.

Furthermore, Vow’s success has attracted interest from other companies seeking potential manufacturing partnerships. Peppou revealed that they are in discussions with various firms interested in leveraging Vow’s efficient manufacturing processes. The company’s excess capacity has allowed them to explore contract manufacturing opportunities, showcasing the scalability and efficiency of their approach.

The growing recognition of Vow’s innovative methods is evident in the increasing number of companies approaching them for collaboration. Peppou noted that they are currently engaged in multiple projects with external partners, underscoring the industry’s interest in adopting Vow’s successful manufacturing strategies.
