The Compleat Food Group, a UK-based company formed through a merger in 2021, has appointed Brian Byrne as its first Chief Operating Officer (COO) to support its growth strategy. With over two decades of experience in global supply chain leadership roles, Byrne will be responsible for overseeing the end-to-end supply chain, including planning, sourcing, manufacturing, and delivery. His promotion to COO comes after the company’s expansion through mergers and acquisitions.
CEO Nick Field expressed confidence in Byrne’s abilities, stating that his expertise, leadership, and commitment to excellence will be crucial as the company continues to build a supply chain that is agile, resilient, and future-proof. The Compleat Food Group’s portfolio includes a variety of products such as baked goods like pies and quiches, sausages, and deli items like olives, antipasti, and pickles. Some of the well-known brands under the company’s umbrella include Pork Farms, Wall’s Pastry, Squeaky Bean, Unearthed, and Vadasz.
The company, which was formed in 2021 through a merger of Winterbotham Darby and Addo Food Group by private-equity owner PAI Partners, has been actively expanding its portfolio through strategic acquisitions. In 2021, the group acquired pie maker Wrights Food Group, followed by the dairy-free cheese business Palace Culture in 2023. In the subsequent years, the company added dips and party food specialists SK Foods and Zorba Foods, as well as cheese, charcuterie, olives, and deli products producer Harvey & Brockless to its portfolio.
Most recently, in 2025, The Compleat Food Group acquired The Real Yorkshire Pudding Co., further strengthening its position in the market. Despite its growth and expansion, the company has also faced challenges, including making redundancies at some of its UK factories this year.
Headquartered in Surrey, south of London, The Compleat Food Group employs over 5,500 people across 16 sites and boasts an annual turnover exceeding £1 billion ($1.3 billion). Brian Byrne expressed his enthusiasm for his new role and his commitment to contributing to the company’s future growth and success.
In addition to its business updates, The Compleat Food Group is also inviting nominations for the Just Food Excellence Awards, a prestigious program that celebrates innovation, leadership, and impact in the industry. The awards aim to recognize achievements, highlight industry advancements, and provide global recognition to deserving companies. Nominations are currently open, offering companies the opportunity to showcase their accomplishments and be honored among the best in the industry.
Overall, The Compleat Food Group’s strategic acquisitions, executive appointments, and commitment to excellence reflect its dedication to growth, innovation, and industry leadership. With a strong foundation and a talented team, the company is poised to continue its success and make a significant impact in the food industry.
