Carolina Foods’ Pineville, North Carolina facility has been named FOOD ENGINEERING magazine’s Plant of the Year for 2025. This prestigious award recognizes the state-of-the-art headquarters and production facility as a standout in the industry.
The journey to this achievement began three years ago with an investment from Charlotte-based private equity firm Falfurrias Capital Partners. This strategic growth plan led to the expansion of the facility, adding 425,000 square feet to Carolina Foods’ existing 100,000 square feet of operations. The facility specializes in producing baked goods such as Duchess Honey Buns, donuts, pastries, and pies.
The judges were impressed by the efficiencies incorporated into the project, which have enabled Carolina Foods to enhance its overall product throughput while upholding high standards of product safety and quality. The project team’s utilization of a linear setup, high levels of automation, and cutting-edge production equipment technology have significantly improved the company’s ability to serve customers across all 50 states. The innovative approach of separating fryer rooms from the rest of the production space was particularly noteworthy in achieving design goals.
Carolina Foods’ CEO, Dan Myers, expressed his pride in reaching this pivotal milestone, emphasizing the dedication and commitment to customers that have driven the company for 90 years. He highlighted the delightful aroma of honey buns that now fills the air in Pineville as a testament to the innovation and quality that have sustained the company’s success. Myers expressed gratitude for the support of employees, community members, and partners in celebrating this new chapter for Carolina Foods.
The plant and its innovative design will be featured in a full profile as the cover story of FOOD ENGINEERING’s April issue. Additionally, the Plant of the Year award will be officially presented at the annual Food Automation & Manufacturing Symposium and Expo, scheduled for April 14-16 at the Hilton Downtown Tampa in Florida.
Carolina Foods’ recognition as Plant of the Year underscores the company’s commitment to excellence, innovation, and customer satisfaction. The investment in a state-of-the-art facility and the implementation of cutting-edge technology reflect Carolina Foods’ dedication to delivering high-quality products and services. This award serves as a testament to the hard work and vision of the team at Carolina Foods and solidifies their position as a leader in the food manufacturing industry.
