Brevel Ltd., a pioneer in the development of microalgae-enriched products, has recently entered into a strategic partnership with The Central Bottling Company (CBC Group), a leading Israeli beverage company. The collaboration aims to create functional beverages and dairy alternatives utilizing Brevel’s innovative microalgae protein and oils.

As part of a 10-year purchase agreement, Brevel will supply CBC with its algae-derived raw ingredients, including protein, functional oils, and antioxidants. Brevel’s proprietary technology for cultivating microalgae involves a unique process that combines light and sugar fermentation in indoor bioreactors. This method allows for the production of nutrient-rich microalgae in large quantities, without the need for genetic modification. The microalgae produced through this process contain essential nutrients such as protein, lipids, fiber, and bioactive antioxidants derived from photosynthesis. By bringing fermentation out of the dark and combining it with photosynthesis, Brevel has created a white, neutral-tasting powder consisting of 60-70% microalgae protein concentrate. This powder can be integrated into meat and dairy alternatives as a natural, plant-based protein booster, offering functional properties that replicate the textures, flavors, and behavior of animal proteins while providing a similar sensory experience.

Yonatan Golan, co-founder and CEO of Brevel, expressed his excitement about the collaboration with CBC Group, stating, “We feel extremely fortunate to collaborate with, and enjoy the support of, such a major force in the beverage arena, not only in Israel but also internationally. This co-venture will be instrumental in keeping Brevel at the forefront of developments in food tech and climate tech.” CBC Group, as Israel’s largest beverage company and the national franchiser of global brands like Coca-Cola, Carlsberg, and Muller, has a strong presence in Eastern Europe and the South Africa/MENA region. As part of the partnership, CBC Group made a strategic investment in Brevel during the company’s last seed-funding round, contributing nearly $20 million to support Brevel’s growth and innovation efforts.

Brevel recently opened a commercial factory in southern Israel, equipped with the capacity to produce hundreds of tons of microalgae protein powder per year. This state-of-the-art facility, inaugurated in June 2024, is poised to meet the growing demand for microalgae-enriched products and help Brevel achieve its business development goals. Yonatan Golan emphasized the company’s commitment to delivering sustainable, better-for-you products to health-conscious consumers, stating, “Our first commercial pilot plant is already primed to meet the first wave of our joint business development goals, delivering great-tasting, better-for-you, sustainably sourced products to the growing population of health-conscious consumers.”

Lihi Rothschild, head of innovation for CBC Group, highlighted the strategic alignment between CBC Group and Brevel, stating, “As we pursue our strategy of continuous innovation to deliver superior products that respond to evolving trends and customer demands, partnering with Brevel is a natural fit. The company’s groundbreaking approach gives us the opportunity to explore new categories and solutions, opening new doors in terms of the range of exciting consumer applications we can offer.”

In conclusion, the collaboration between Brevel Ltd. and CBC Group represents a significant milestone in the development of microalgae-enriched products. By leveraging Brevel’s innovative technology and CBC Group’s industry expertise, the partnership is poised to deliver cutting-edge functional beverages and dairy alternatives to meet the demands of health-conscious consumers worldwide.
