The Association of Avocado Producers and Packers Exporters of Mexico (APEAM) has recently reaffirmed its commitment to ongoing avocado exports amidst concerns over potential tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump. As the sole cooperating partner with the USDA-APHIS for avocado exports to the United States, APEAM plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth flow of avocados between the two countries.

Avocados currently maintain a 0% tariff as long as they comply with the rules of origin outlined in the T-MEC agreement. The export industry is a significant contributor to both the Mexican and U.S. economies, generating 78,000 direct jobs and 300,000 indirect jobs. In 2024, Mexican avocados contributed $7.5 billion to U.S. economic production, $4.2 billion to GDP, and $2.5 billion in labor income, while income for Mexico reached $6 billion.

APEAM values the agreement that strengthens bilateral avocado trade with the United States and remains vigilant in monitoring any potential scenarios that may affect the industry. The association is committed to meeting the demand for avocados while upholding the highest standards of quality and safety. APEAM continues to engage in dialogue with authorities and key stakeholders to ensure that Mexican avocados continue to reach the tables of millions of families.

The association acknowledges and appreciates the efforts of all members of the value chain, whose dedication has established Mexican avocados as a global leader in the industry. APEAM serves as the authorized spokesperson for its 35,000 producers and 92 export packaging companies in Michoacán and Jalisco, representing the interests of the avocado export industry.

In a statement, APEAM emphasized its commitment to the industry and the ongoing success of avocado exports. The association’s role as a facilitator of avocado exports from Mexico is essential in maintaining the strong partnership between Mexico and the United States in the avocado trade.

As the industry continues to evolve and face new challenges, APEAM remains dedicated to ensuring the continued success of avocado exports. The association’s commitment to quality, safety, and sustainability is unwavering, and it will continue to work towards the benefit of all stakeholders in the avocado industry.

In conclusion, APEAM’s reaffirmation of its commitment to avocado exports underscores the importance of the industry to both Mexico and the United States. With a focus on maintaining high standards and fostering strong partnerships, APEAM will continue to play a vital role in the success of avocado exports for years to come.
