On January 24, 2025, All Star Management, owned by Mike Allegro, announced a partnership with Perch Energy in 31 Wendy’s and McDonald’s locations across northern Illinois. This strategic move is expected to result in savings of over $20,000 on electricity costs annually for the franchises, as stated in a press release.
Taking into account the energy usage of the fast-food locations up to 2024, it is estimated that collectively, they could save approximately $1 million over a span of two decades. In the initial phase of community solar subscriptions with Perch Energy, the restaurants will secure around $500,000 in savings from solar farms generating nearly 8 MW of clean electricity. As more capacity becomes available, the franchises will have the option to increase their subscription to potentially double their initial savings to reach the projected $1 million mark. The energy generated from these solar farms is equivalent to offsetting 13,437 metric tons of CO2 emissions, which is akin to removing 3,134 cars from the road annually.
Mike Allegro expressed his satisfaction with the decision to partner with Perch Energy, highlighting the substantial electricity consumption of their restaurants due to their extended operating hours. He emphasized the rising costs of various expenses but commended Perch and Solar On Earth for helping to reduce their electricity bills amidst the overall economic inflation.
Bruce Stewart, the president and CEO of Perch Energy, emphasized the inclusive benefits of community solar, noting that businesses, organizations, municipalities, families, and individuals can all reap the rewards of energy savings through this initiative. He pointed out that not only the local McDonald’s and Wendy’s franchises benefit from community solar, but also schools, apartment buildings, homeowners, and the entire community at large can access tangible savings through this environmentally friendly approach.
By embracing community solar, Mike Allegro joins a growing cadre of businesses enrolled in this program with Perch Energy, underscoring the significance of businesses, both large and small, making a positive environmental impact while enhancing their operational efficiency.
In conclusion, the partnership between All Star Management and Perch Energy in implementing community solar in multiple fast-food locations across northern Illinois signifies a proactive step towards sustainable and cost-effective energy solutions. The substantial savings projected over the long term, coupled with the significant reduction in carbon emissions, highlight the tangible benefits of embracing renewable energy practices. As more businesses follow suit and adopt community solar initiatives, the collective impact on both the environment and operational costs is poised to be substantial, paving the way for a more sustainable future for businesses and communities alike.
