CBH Group’s Moora Rail Outloading and Siding Project Progressing Towards Commissioning
The construction of CBH Group’s rapid rail outloading and siding project at Moora is well underway and is on track for commissioning in the March 2026 quarter. This project is part of the co-operative’s Path to 2033 strategy, which aims to achieve an export out-turn peak of 3 million tonnes per month.
The project, which began in November, is being led by head contractor Laing O’Rourke Rail Operations. The scope of work includes the construction of a 1440m rail siding and a new six-silo 6600-tonne fixed rail-loading facility. The project team has successfully completed 60,000 cubic metres of bulk earthworks and is now transitioning to structural, mechanical, and rail works on site.
Progress on the rail siding is notable, with drainage works and rail turnout connections currently underway. The ballast layer of the earthworks is expected to be laid in the near future. Additionally, flash-butt welding of 150-350m lengths of rail track has been completed and is ready for installation.
At the facility, 500 cubic metres of concrete foundations have been poured, and construction of the facility’s silos has commenced. Silo trestles have been erected on the concrete pad, and the silo cones have been welded in preparation for installation onto the trestles. The facility’s auger pit has also been assembled and installed, with the focus now shifting to the installation of the reclaim conveyor.
In the upcoming month, the project team will invert and land the silo cones onto the trestle legs, and the first full silo structure will be erected at Moora. This progress signifies a significant milestone in the project’s timeline and brings the commissioning date closer.
The Moora Rail Outloading and Siding Project is a crucial component of CBH Group’s overall strategy to enhance its export capabilities and achieve its long-term goals. With the project progressing well and key milestones being met, the co-operative is set to strengthen its position in the industry and increase its operational efficiency.
As the project continues to unfold, CBH Group remains committed to delivering high-quality infrastructure that will support its operations and benefit the local community. The completion of the Moora project will not only enhance the co-operative’s rail outloading capabilities but also contribute to the overall growth and development of the region.
In conclusion, the Moora Rail Outloading and Siding Project is making significant strides towards completion, with the commissioning date set for the March 2026 quarter. With key construction milestones being achieved and progress in various aspects of the project, CBH Group is well on its way to achieving its strategic objectives and enhancing its operational capabilities.
