The Carrathool Grain Complex, a commercial-scale grain storage and handling facility located in New South Wales’ Riverina region, is currently up for sale. This 22.6ha site boasts approximately 95,480 tonnes of grain storage capacity, utilizing a mix of silos and bunkers. Situated 58km east of Hay and 117km west of Narrandera, the complex is presently leased and operated by AgConnex, specializing in the storage of winter cereals such as durum, hard wheat, and barley.
Previously managed by Grainlink, a grain storage and trading company that entered voluntary administration in June 2023, the site was restructured and acquired by Australian Grainlink in October of the same year. Under the new management of AgConnex, led by CEO Geoff Barker and director Dean Sylvestro, the Carrathool Grain Complex continues to operate efficiently and effectively.
Elders Deniliquin agent Matt Horne has highlighted the excellent condition of the facility, noting the ongoing maintenance and improvements made to the site. With significant enhancements including crushed rock applications for heavy vehicle access and regular bunker maintenance as part of the pre-harvest upkeep program, the infrastructure at Carrathool is well-maintained and operational.
The strategic location of the complex within the heart of the Riverina cropping region makes it an attractive investment opportunity for both new and existing operators. Positioned on Conargo Road off the Sturt Highway, the site offers accessibility to irrigation farmers along the Murrumbidgee River, particularly those utilizing deep irrigation bores for crop cultivation.
The facility features 7480 tonnes of vertical grain storage, including aerated silos, internal augers, hopper and elevator systems, as well as cone-based silos. Additionally, 88,000 tonnes of storage capacity is provided through central bunkers with compacted gravel bases, formed roads, and drainage infrastructure leading to a storage dam. Supplementary facilities include an office complex with a weighbridge, sample stand, and machinery shed and workshop.
There is ample space available for expansion, with potential for additional silo storage to be installed on the site. Prospective buyers have the opportunity to triple the current vertical storage capacity by utilizing the available northern end of the block for further development.
Expressions of interest for the sale of the Carrathool Grain Complex are being accepted until noon on February 27. This presents a unique chance for investors and operators to acquire a well-established and strategically located grain storage and handling facility in the Riverina region.
