Recognition of Breeder and Broiler Performance in South Africa’s Poultry Industry

The Arbor Acres® South Africa initiative recently celebrated outstanding performance in the poultry sector by hosting a roadshow to honor various customers with the Arbor Acres Achievers Breeder and Broiler Club awards. Since 2006, Arbor Acres South Africa has been the exclusive distributor of Arbor Acres poultry genetics within South Africa, Swaziland, and Lesotho. This commitment underscores the importance of delivering high-performing flocks to support food security in the local markets.

The Arbor Acres Achievers Breeder Club specifically recognizes breeders who achieve an impressive performance metric of 140 or more chicks per hen housed by 60 weeks of age. In addition, the Arbor Acres Achievers Broiler Club rewards producers who attain a European Product Efficiency Factor (EPEF) of 400 or more with their broiler flocks.

Supreme Poultry

The recognition ceremony commenced on November 19 in Potchefstroom with Supreme Poultry, a leading poultry producer in South Africa and a division of Country Bird Holdings (CBH). Supreme Poultry is renowned for its top-quality chicken products marketed under the Supreme Chicken brand. During the event, they celebrated their top breeder flock, which achieved an impressive performance of 161.78 chicks per hen housed at 60 weeks, earning them Gold membership in the Achievers Breeder Club. Additionally, their broiler flock attained an EPEF of 443.78, securing Silver membership in the Achievers Broiler Club.

Chubby Chick

Later that same day, Arbor Acres South Africa honored Chubby Chick, a reputable poultry supplier distinguished by its commitment to quality and freshness. During the awards presentation, Deon Fourie, the owner of Chubby Chick, was present along with key farm managers. The company’s top-performing breeder flock achieved 161.35 chicks per hen housed at 60 weeks, while their broiler flock excelled with an EPEF of 498.34, earning them Gold membership in both the Breeder and Broiler Clubs.

Grain Field Chickens

On November 21, Arbor Acres South Africa’s General Manager, Arno van der Nat, visited Grain Field Chickens, another esteemed customer that was welcomed into the Arbor Acres Achievers Broiler Club Gold tier. Grain Field Chickens, based in Reitz, Free State, achieved an EPEF of 471.78, showcasing their reputation as a premier poultry producer known for high-quality, fresh, and frozen chicken products.

Henwil Chickens

The award ceremony for Henwil Chickens took place on November 28 at their headquarters in Lichtenburg, North-West South Africa. This event was attended by Arno van der Nat and the Henwil Chickens broiler farmers. The company secured entry into the Arbor Acres Achievers Broiler Club with a remarkable EPEF of 469.32, thereby achieving Gold membership. Known for their state-of-the-art facilities, Henwil Chickens emphasizes high standards of food safety and quality. Janus Pretorius, Technical Officer for the Broiler Division, expressed delight in achieving Gold membership, emphasizing the exceptional performance of Arbor Acres breeds in various housing systems.

JR Poultry

JR Poultry, a processing company located in Zeerust, North-West Province, celebrated their year-end function on November 29. This occasion provided an ideal setting for Arbor Acres South Africa to distribute Club certificates to the best-performing producers. JR Poultry’s top flock achieved an impressive EPEF of 466.58, resulting in Gold membership in the Arbor Acres Achievers Broiler Club.

Lufafa Hatchery

In January, Lufafa Hatchery, a well-established poultry farm in the Letaba district, earned entry into the Arbor Acres Achievers Breeder Club Silver tier by achieving 159.7 chicks per hen housed. Their commitment to breeding, hatching, and selling broiler chicks has made them a recognized player in the industry.

Ndiza Poultry

Also in January, Ndiza Poultry, situated in the village of Dargle in KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, attained Gold membership in the Achievers Breeder Club with an impressive result of 160.4 chicks per hen housed, showcasing their dedication to poultry excellence.

CC Chickens Ltd

On January 13, Arno visited CC Chickens (Pty) Ltd, an integrated operation in Kroonstad, Free State, to present their Achievers Broiler Club Gold certificate. This acknowledgment was in recognition of their EPEF result of 451.13. Albie Esterhuizen, Managing Director of CC Chickens Ltd, remarked on the impressive results being observed from the Arbor Acres broiler and highlighted the significance of recognizing exceptional performance among their producers.

Elgin Free Range Chickens

The final recognition visit was to Elgin Free Range Chickens, a well-respected producer specializing in raising free-range chickens. During this event, Arno presented a certificate acknowledging their top flock, which achieved 170.5 chicks per hen housed, thus earning Gold membership in the Arbor Acres Achievers Breeder Club.
