The course will be held at Reiman Gardens in Ames on April 12, May 10, June 14, July 19, and August 9, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Admission to Reiman Gardens includes access to the course, and no registration is required. The aim of the course is to educate participants on identifying sources of microbiological contamination, safely harvesting and handling fruits and vegetables, and implementing actions to mitigate consumer safety hazards.

According to Andre Salazar, an extension education specialist in food safety with ISU Extension and Outreach, the course is designed to be easily understood by beginners while also offering valuable information for experienced commercial growers. This collaboration with Reiman Gardens ensures that participants will gain the knowledge necessary to provide safe produce to their families and communities.

The course covers a range of topics essential for anyone involved in fruit and vegetable production. By understanding the risks of contamination and implementing best practices for handling produce, participants will be equipped to ensure the safety of the food they grow and distribute.
