The US Poultry & Egg Association’s (USPOULTRY) Harold E. Ford Foundation (USPOULTRY Foundation) recently sponsored the National 4-H Poultry and Egg Conference at the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center in Louisville on November 19th and 20th. This conference celebrated the achievements of 4-H members who had excelled in poultry learning experience activities in their respective states. The event aimed to introduce participants to the world of poultry and the poultry industry, while also providing valuable life skills through various contests and activities. Attendees were also given insights into potential careers in the poultry and allied industries.
A total of 152 4-H’ers from 26 states came together at the conference, connecting with like-minded individuals who shared a passion for poultry. The event featured a range of activities including decision-making exercises, public speaking opportunities, and poultry-related skill challenges. Some of the highlighted events included poultry judging, chicken and turkey barbecuing competitions, an egg chef challenge, and the Avian Bowl—a thrilling game of poultry and egg trivia. Industry professionals also led a Poultry Careers workshop, offering attendees valuable information on career paths and educational opportunities within the poultry and egg sectors.
Under the guidance of coach Jeremy Lee, the Texas team emerged as the overall winners of the conference, with Trent Ellebracht from Texas being recognized as the top overall participant. Barbara Jenkins, the vice president of Education and Student Programs for USPOULTRY and executive director of the USPOULTRY Foundation, was on hand to present the awards to the deserving winners.
