Koppert Launches New Limonica Product with Double the Predatory Mites

Koppert, a leading provider of biological solutions for pest control in agriculture, has recently introduced their new Limonica product with an increased number of predatory mites per bottle. The number has been doubled from 12,500 to 25,000 mites, marking a significant improvement in the product’s effectiveness and sustainability. This enhancement is a result of Koppert’s continuous efforts to make Limonica, which contains the predatory mite Amblydromalus limonicus, more accessible and beneficial for growers.

Tim Bossinga, Global Product Manager at Koppert, explains the challenges faced in rearing Limonica and the breakthrough achieved through months of research and development. He states, “Limonica is a product with enormous potential, but the predatory mite is difficult to rear. After extensive trials and improvements, we have successfully doubled the number of predatory mites in a bottle, making the product more user-friendly for growers in various markets. This advancement is a significant step towards further developing this successful product.”

Amblydromalus limonicus is a generalist predatory mite that feeds on a variety of pests, including whiteflies, thrips, mites, and other small insects. Tim highlights the mite’s effectiveness in controlling invasive thrips species like Thrips parvispinus and Scirtothrips spp. Exclusively produced by Koppert under the name Limonica, this predatory mite has proven to be a valuable solution in pest management, particularly in low-temperature conditions.

One of the key features of Limonica is its ability to thrive in heavy pest infestations and lower temperatures. The mite efficiently targets thrips, whiteflies, and pollen, consuming various life stages of the pests. Additionally, Limonica remains active across a wide temperature range, from 13°C to 30°C, with the capability to lay eggs even at lower temperatures. This adaptability makes it a superior choice compared to other predatory mites in colder climates.

The new Limonica product, containing 25,000 predatory mites in a 1-litre bottle, will be available starting February 3rd under the product code 05605.
