Sheep meat imports up 17%
The latest HCC Market Bulletin reports that the total volume of fresh and frozen sheepmeat imported into the UK increased by 17% to 63,800 tonnes in the past year, with much of the increase coming from frozen New Zealand lamb.
The volume of fresh and frozen beef imported to the UK decreased by 4%, while fresh and frozen pig meat imports remained stable.
Red meat exports were significantly higher than in previous years, with total sheepmeat exports up by 8% year-on-year and worth £503.5 million, and beef and veal exports rising by 17% on the year and valued at £640 million.
Total pigmeat exports were up 10% to £623.2 million.
