Commercial beef producers in Namibia are calling for the government to stop interfering with the affairs of the Meat Corporation of Namibia (Meatco). The group is demanding the corporation be returned to the hands of commercial farmers to improve its profitability.

Meatco has been struggling since the government took it over as a full-blown state-owned enterprise.

The farmers also want Meatco to withdraw operations in the Northern Communal Areas (NCAs). If their demands are not met, they threaten to end their ties with the entity.

The farmers also want to have representation on the Meatco board.

Savanna Beef Processors is set to enter the beef market in Q4 2024.
