According to Braemar brokers, CMA CGM has topped the liner chartering tables this year, with over 20% of all charter fixtures reported in 2023 linked with the Marseille-based liner.
The company has chartered in 51% of its 3.4 million TEU fleet, and recently acquired the 2015-built, 9,612 TEU Akadimos at a firm rate of $47,250.
Braemar notes that the activity level in the container charter markets remains high, leading to increasing charter rates for specific segments, with a 12-month period becoming the new norm. Maersk Broker expects TC rates to continue their firming trend and for average periods to rise, as prompt tonnage is scarce across all segments.
